Okay, I haven't technically seen that one, but you know what I mean.įor those who don't, you can encounter tamers that have Nexomon's 2nd or 3rd evolution at a level they can't evolve at yet. I don't know about you guys but it's always annoyed me to see a trainer in Pokémon with a Pidgeot that's level 20 when it doesn't evolve until level 36. I would have liked the tamers to have names at least, mostly for memes like how Youngster Joey is from Gold and Silver. You get to rematch all of them so it would make more sense for them to have names. Nameless NPC's aren't too bad and can be ignored for the most part however, other tamers you battle don't get names unless they're part of the story in some way. You can't even learn the same more twice which just makes this more pointless. I think this could have been avoided as there's been times I've looked at the move again to see if I should have it and then realized "oh, they already know that one". Unfortunately though, even if they already know the move, when they level up the game will ask you if they want to learn that move again. When your Nexomon levels up they learn a new move from time to time (just like Pokémon). It's not extremely noticeable, but it does make navigating the menu a bit of a pain at times, especially when sorting Nexomon. When going through the menu to sort Nexomon or save I noticed it felt a bit slow and at times I had to double click to get somewhere. It doesn't ruin the game, but I do think it would have been a good feature to add. I like being able to trade Pokémon and getting those I haven't got that way or battle friends. It would be nice to trade and battle other players even if a feature like this was only unlocked during post game. This game to me competes pretty well with Pokémon and feels like a breath of fresh air, but the one main issue I have with this game is there's no way to play online. There's quite a few things here as well, but I'll go over the bigger ones first. You don't need to buy 2 different versions or create multiple accounts, unless you plan to replay the game a ton of times. The rarity of Nexomon also show up during battle as well.īasically you get some neat features each time you rank up.ĮDIT: I said 3 saves files but there's actually 4

When you become a silver tamer though they won't challenge you unless you talk to them. You do main and side quests to increase your rep making your way from bronze tamer to silver, then to gold, and finally grand master.Īs a bronze tamer all tamers that you already battled can be rematched however, if they see you, you have to battle them. Not the gym leader type of badges though. The way you rank up in this game is with tamer badges. Grinding felt more rewarding as I'd level up my Nexomon to a certain point and then continue with the story, and I'd do that each time something big happened. That includes tamer battles and wild Nexomon. The more you progress in the story the stronger everything else gets. It feels a lot more convenient than how Pokémon does it however, there isn't a TM system.Įarly on I didn't like how the game was power creeping, but over time I understood better on how it worked. You can also order the moves and re-learn later on in the game by paying around 100 to 300 gold depending on the move.

The moves stats are shown during battle with power, accuracy, speed, strength, and typing. Although the following mechanic is quite limited in how it works and isn't quite the same as Heart Gold & Soul Silver. The customization for the character in this game isn't X & Y level, but you can change your name, gender, a selection of characters to choose from, and even what Nexomon follows you during the game. I did a lot of side tracking before continuing with the story until I couldn't travel any further. You get to travel quite far ignoring the story to catch more Nexomon, battle other tamers, or even do side quests. You can also throw different types of food at Nexomon to increase your chances of capturing them. You have different types of "pokéballs", but you have to go through a combination of buttons after throwing one. The way you catch Nexomon is also similar to Pokémon. I like that there's a ton to choose from as I'd mostly just catch ones based on there design and try to keep my team's types different from one another. This is a lot when compared to Pokémon games, the first ones at least. First off, the game is completely self aware, almost neck an neck with Neptunia kind of way and I absolutely love it!Ĭoco, the companion that travels with you through the game mostly carries these jokes but there's a lot of other characters that have meta jokes and funny dialogue in general as well.
